Laatst had ik ‘t nog over het nut van netsnoeren, naar aanleiding van de test die u nu aan het lezen bent. Ditmaal niet met een leek maar met mijn aanstaande zwager. Die is iets hoogs bij Nuon, in de techniek, met hogere cijfers voor natuur- en scheikunde, tijdens een voor de rest vreedzaam verlopen verjaardag.

Because the cables were there, as was the SME 20/12 turntable, returned from its recent photo session for the cov- er of the May Stereophile. Conçu pour les disques vinyle de 30 cm de diamètre, son grand plateau peut aussi rece- voir plusieurs disques CD en même temps, ou des câbles modu- lation, haut-parleurs ou secteur. Bref, l’objet sera vite rentabilisé dans le cadre d’une installation haute-fidélité complète et digne de ce nom. L’intérêt majeur est de ne pas faire appel à des aimants statiques tournants. Quand c’est le cas, en fin de déma- gnétisation et si vous ne retirez pas doucement l’objet à déma- gnétiser, c’est l’effet inverse de celui recherché qui se produit, au moins sur une partie de l’objet en question! Ici, la procédure de démagnétisation est électrique, avec montée et descente pro- gressives du phénomène entraînant la démagnétisation. En pra- tique, une fois le DeMag mis sous tension, on appuie sur une seconde touche, qui s’illumine en vert pour, au bout de quelques dizaines de secondes, s’éteindre, indiquant la fin du processus. Et c’est tout. Nous avons essayé le DeMag avec des disques vinyle, puis CD, puis des câbles de modulation. Tous ces élé- ments sont effectivement sensibles à une magnétisation progres- sive, puis permanente, si l’on peut dire.
FURUTECH NAÑO FLUID Yes – snake oil, tweaking grease, liquid sound, you call it what you like but it is truly amazing. This special fluid is supposed to fill in the blemishes in all metal parts in your cable connections. Over the years I’ve tried many products like this and they all do a bit (some hardly detectable) but the NAÑO fluid can only be described as doing an amazing improvement not thought possible from such a small item.
I freely confess to being a long-time video junkie. Since VHS first arrived, I’ve
invested in a long sequence of home theater format and gear: VHS, Laserdisc
(still got most all of my LDs, too), DVD, DVHS, HD broadcast (Portland was one
of the initial test sites for HD over the air), HD over cable (Comcast), and now
Blu Ray. (I guessed right on that last one, and went with Blu Ray instead of HD-
DVD, which I considered to be an inferior format.) I shifted to HDMI for video
only when I purchased my Panasonic BD-10 Blu Ray player; it was video only
since my Linn Kisto didn’t support HDMI.

No matter what type of audiophile you are, Furutech has some goodie that you will want to
add to your accessory collection. If you listen to vinyl, it may be the deMag record
demagnetizer, deStat anti-static device, or DFV-1 record flattener. If you’re into digital, it
may be the Disc Pure CD and DVD cleaner or SK-II electrostatic disc brush. All of our
systems need power, in which case the e-TP80 power filter, one of the company’s AC outlets
or cover plates, or a fuse or two will be on your wish list.
Being a music lover and affording the gear to be able to really try to reproduce what
musicians were trying to do are t two phrases that are not usually synonymous with
each other. Also as a reviewer who has a real world budget for this hobby puts me in
a difficult position! While reviewing every expensive esoteric cable known to man
(which I’ve done on occasion) can be a lot of fun, it always comes down to what I can
really afford to put into my system.
