Up until a few months ago, I had been plugging my hi-fi into a Furutech e-TP60 power conditioner, with the power
conditioner going into the only AC receptacle in my small living room. I was too embarrassed to tell anyone about
it, but from the very start of my hi-fi journey, I was concerned about that single electrical outlet: not only was it
limiting, it was in desperate need of repair.
You couldn't pay me enough to conduct a shoot-out of 12 DIN-to-RCA phono cables. I did it anyway. Why? Because the cables were there, as was the SME 20/12 turntable, returned from its recent photo session for the cov- er of the May Stereophile. The SME's ex- posed DIN jack made switching among the candidates relatively painless.
demagnetizing an LP definitively removed a high-frequency glaze or glare and
seemed to enrich the midband... Demagnetizing LPs works. Better yet, once a record
has been demagnetized, it seems to stay that way... And do not try one of these devices
unless you're prepared to buy it."
Also, I made one other change when I removed the Ayre gear from my system: I switched from the Ayre–supplied
and –spec'd Cardas cables to Furutech Evolutions. Incidentally, it was right around this same time that I read Jay
Rein's essay on system synergy.
I had already been using a Furutech e-TP609 power distributor and Evolution power cord. These accessories have
been quiet constants.
