Soundstage 2007/09

…The first disc I tried the deStat with was the Allison Krauss SACD Now That I’ve Found You – Collection [Rounder
11661-0325-6]. This is a well-recorded compilation of some of Ms. Krauss’s early recordings. The SACD is one of
the best-sounding recordings in my collection. The instruments are clearly rendered and precisely located. Krauss’s
voice is ethereal. Yet after a quick ten-second zap with the deStat the disc opened up even more, allowing me to
hear more of the recording’s personality.

Last issue we have tested expensive power distributor from Furutech (e-TP609E) and were
surprised, how well done production with the high technology materials (copper, bronze,
aluminum under cryogenic and demagnetizing treatment) can significantly improve components
works, that can expected previously from big power conditioners only. Absolute Power is not a
cheap, but it`s value for money. During the test we took an album of Norwegian avangarde
piper Nils Molver.

Soundstage 2007/08

“There was more detail and clarity. The tonal accuracy of instruments improved … each instrument sounded more
realistic. The sound after treatment was more vivid, and the background was quieter… I realized I was hearing just as
much high-frequency information after demagnetization, but a previously unrealized distortion had been removed. …
made each LP more pleasant to listen to … another example of the listener not realizing a distortion was present until
it had been removed.”

The Absolute Sound 2007/07

Furutech deMag Price: $1800 Given its cost, Furutech’s limited edition deMag is not for casual LP-spinners. That said, this large, overbuilt, flying saucer-like accessory really works. What’s that you say, demagnetize vinyl a plastic? Yes, it seems that the pigment added to the plastic contains small amounts of ferrous material that magnetizes vinyl LPs. A quick 20-second zap to each side of an LP results in audible improvements to noise floor, dynamic range, and perceived resolution.

6moons 2007 – G-320Ag-18 & G-320Ag-18

If you read my White Lightning Moonshine DIY interconnect & speaker cable article on the preceding page, you
know that it’s possible to get unexpectedly good results from very humble starting materials like the Woods Yard
Master Patio Cord sold by Wal-Mart for the low low price of $7.44. With a little slicing, dicing and soldering of the
patio cord conductors, I ended up with surprisingly good speaker cables and interconnects. Given the good results,
the next logical extension (I know, bad pun) would be to build a DIY power cable and thus this DIY White Lightning
Power Cable project was born.

6moons 2007 – deStat & DFV-1

“deStat completely removes dust and eliminates static on CD, DVD, LP, A/V equipment”. That’s what the press
release on the Furutech deStat said, anyway. But I’ve heard such things before. I took Furutech’s claims with a grain
of salt. When I was offered to review the deStat, I accepted it on a conditional basis – if I liked it, I’d write about it. If
not, back it’d go. The fact that you’re reading this should pretty much sum up the rest of the story.

Enjoy the music 2007/04

“My first overall impression [of the Evolution cables] was one of control. …It was as though I could feel that
there was something holding the music firmly within its grasp and allowing the system to reproduce more
effectively the intensity, fabric and overall visceral impact that one might expect in a live environment.
