“I’m testing Willie Nelson’s ‘Don’t Know me’, it shows static electricity of 4.0mV at first. After 10 seconds with
the Destat II: 1.6mV. Another 10 seconds and it shows 0.0mV. It seems all static electricity had vanished after a
20 second treatment.”
“With the Destat II, Furutech not only made a concrete step forward in comparison to the Destat, but it also
completely revenged itself against competitor Orb Sakura.”

Have you ever thought about trying a DIY audio project but shied away from it because of its level of difficultly? Well, here’s a
power cable DIY project that just about anyone should be able to complete, even those that aren’t too handy. What’s the
appeal of a DIY project you ask? You get to choose exactly the parts that you’d like to use and you can build a component that
offers the same level of performance as a much higher priced ready-built product. But perhaps the biggest reason for building
a DIY project is the self satisfaction that it will bring you.

Up until a few months ago, I had been plugging my hi-fi into a Furutech e-TP60 power conditioner, with the power
conditioner going into the only AC receptacle in my small living room. I was too embarrassed to tell anyone about
it, but from the very start of my hi-fi journey, I was concerned about that single electrical outlet: not only was it
limiting, it was in desperate need of repair.

From the off it’s clear this AudioQuest is a showman at heart, promoting a dynamic and driving feel from our Sky+HD box that’s bolstered by a lively and integrated sound complete with supple and solid bass and sweetly chiming midrange and treble. Images are precise, naturally toned and clear with Philips’ Eco TV. Our only criticism was the odd judder to fast motion – but that’s still not something we expect at this price.

FURUTECH HAS BEEN an increasingly familiar figure in the world of tweaks recently, thanks to a range that includes cables, mains connectors and more esoteric devices such as an LP- flattening oven, a sort of Corby trouser press for vinyl. The PC-2 looks pretty ordinary and there are lots of bottles of fluid allegedly ideal for cleaning CDs, DVDs and other flavours of optical disc.

The potential benefits of what is known as a record clamp, or an LP stabiliser, are widely known. They range from improved tracking and reduced resonance to a lower noise floor, improved resolution and finer imaging. However, I say ‘potential’ for a reason. The effects of these devices vary greatly, depending on the specific application. Suspended or solid-chassis turntables, different tonearms and cartridges – all of these factors, and more, have an impact on how effective a LP stabiliser can be.

Cables are often considered an accessory rather than a critical part of the system as a whole – and it’s a short-sighted approach. That’s why a cable loom like the Furutech Flux system assembled here warrants attention: it’s a fundamental part of the end result. And while the prices are high, they are not as high as some and certainly not unusual in high-end cable circles. Furutech is a Japanese company that established itself in the UK with the most comprehensively engineered IEC mains plugs on the market, but it started out making AV cables with high purity OCC single-crystal oxygen-free copper, a material which it still considers to be the ultimate for audio applications. Although the Flux is Furutech’s flagship range and consists of all the key signal and AC cables, the range of off-the-shelf lengths is limited to 1.2m for Lineflux interconnects and 1.8m for Powerflux mains cables, but Speakerflux can be had in 2m, 3m, 4m and 5m pairs with prices starting at £2,295 for the shortest. Other sizes can be made to order.
