(Compared to the previous models) I was astonished by the drastic overall changes.
The frequency response has broadened, extending cleanly to the higher ranges, and
the mid and high frequencies exhibit crisp transients with clear contours. The
accompaniment guitar excels in attack, with sparkling arpeggios. The bass has
improved in resolution and damping; bass instruments display clearer motion.
Cryogenic treatment is key to almost every Furutech cable and connector, as is the promise of exceptional build and finish quality [HFN Mar ’18]. With cables, of course, the material engineering can easily be quantified, but with the Japanese brand’s ‘noise busting’ NCF Clear Line plugs – supplied with RCA and XLR terminations for insertion into unused audio inputs – the science can easily lose some clarity. Prices are £205 for each RCA-equipped plug and £260 for the bigger male and female XLR derivatives.
Balanced interconnects
require an additional conductor
within the screened cable, which
is not needed with a standard
unbalanced one. Such a cable is
intended for use with balanced XLR
connectors to accommodate the
standard and inverted audio signals
from the source equipment with
respect to the earth.

Furutech. A front-rank, top o’ the heap high-end audio headquartered in Japan. I’ve followed their products for many years now, and for very good reasons: Furutech builds really great products of the finest materials, and is always operating out at the edge of the possibilities of research and development in the audio arts. Meticulous to a fault, and sensitive to the prospects of finely tuned materials science, they are constantly creating fascinating new, nuanced designs. Their work is always industrial art.
Nobody knowing anything about audio needs convincing, that proper power to Hi-Fi/High-End devices, including appropriate cables, is a key thing. You just need to take care
of it, and the audio gear will surely return the favor. It is well known what kind of progress can be made with appropriately refined confection, with which I mean the plugs,
which are often not regarded as significant, especially by the general public. And while most of the lucky people just plugs into the back of their components whatever they
like, a part of the golden eared had to go for compromises, by not using the top of the catalog plugs (which are usually quite big) but their lesser brethren, or even “civilian”
plugs. Who am I talking about?
It is well known that the Japanese company Furutech has a wealth of different cables, available “from the spool”, as well as factory confectioned, but they also do not forget
about people wanting to upgrade their systems using different kinds of accessories, often called audio trinkets. Starting with the universal Destat, brushes and vinyl disc
straighteners, through cable supports (NCF Booster / NCF Booster Signal) and ending with power strips
Sometimes reviewing high-end audio cables can feel like checking-in for an overbooked trans-Atlantic flight and being assigned the middle seat in economy class. Ohhh yeah… that torturous middle seat where you’re stuffed in between the adjoining aisle seat and window seat. On your left, there’ll assuredly be someone with scorching halitosis whom can’t stop droning on and on about some trivial story from their past. On your right, there’ll likely be an exhausted woman clutching a screaming, teething, toddler with eye-watering flatulence and explosive diarrhea. I’d rather suffer through a 4-hour root canal surgery than to have to undergo sitting in that middle seat for 10 to 12 hours.
