…This play almost sounded like a different mastering. It was quieter, had more impact, more space, more detail, was remarkably clearer, had less “glare” and “haze,” and was even slightly louder than the first play, all with NO CHANGES to the system settings. It clearly sounded like a different pressing than the one we had just heard and was enhanced in just about every conceivable attribute.
If you are a lover of the vinyl long- playing disc, this unit from Furutech will be one of those all-too-rare "must- have" components. There is information in those grooves that is always being obscured, minimized, and dulled by the interaction between the magnetism on the disc and the electronics of a cartridge.

DeStat
This enterprising Japanese company makes a number of interesting accessories as well as a broad range
of cable products. The DeStat ($360) is a hand-held battery-powered device that eliminates static charges
by blowing a gentle stream of positively and negatively charged charged ions. Traditionally the greatest
use for static eliminators has been with LPs, but static can be a problem not only with media CD and DVD

If you're a regular reader of this site, you're presumably among the converted: a true-blue audiophile who has no
question that there are profound qualitative differences to be heard between different amplifiers, preamplifiers, and CD
players—not to mention cables, cords, power conditioners, equipment racks, and even footers. On the other side of the
audio divide are the debunkers: those who think those differences are usually at best negligible, and who view
audiophiles as pitiable obsessive-compulsives who delude themselves into hearing distinctions that aren't really there.

FURUTECH DEMAG £1,245 In my column In September's HHFI World, I covered a range of gadgets that claimed to demagnetise both your vinyl and CDs. Magnetic effects on both black vinyl and CD media have now proven to be a factor in degrading sound quality. Certainly, when I made comparative tests with 'The Talisman' from US-based Walker Audio, priced at £200 (www. audiophilecandy.com) and Bedini's 'Ultra Clarifier Quadri Beam', priced at £225

"There was more detail and clarity. The tonal accuracy of instruments improved ... each instrument sounded more
realistic. The sound after treatment was more vivid, and the background was quieter... I realized I was hearing just as
much high-frequency information after demagnetization, but a previously unrealized distortion had been removed. ...
made each LP more pleasant to listen to ... another example of the listener not realizing a distortion was present until
it had been removed."

Furutech deMag Price: $1800 Given its cost, Furutech's limited edition deMag is not for casual LP-spinners. That said, this large, overbuilt, flying saucer-like accessory really works. What's that you say, demagnetize vinyl a plastic? Yes, it seems that the pigment added to the plastic contains small amounts of ferrous material that magnetizes vinyl LPs. A quick 20-second zap to each side of an LP results in audible improvements to noise floor, dynamic range, and perceived resolution.

At the Munich High End 2006 show, we saw the new Furutech DeMag for the first time eye to eye - a super sleek,
high- heeled, shiny grey kind of UFO. It's not completely round but there is a platform protrusion like a landing deck
holding two grated metal plates and two nipples for switches. We made an appointment with the US importer's PR
man Jonathan Scull for a review. Because the DeMag was so new, Jonathan warned us that it might take some time.
We're patient so that was no excuse. And then the package from Japan arrived at our doorstep, unopened by
EU customs no less. Here it was, the DeMag, finally, as though it had come a'flying the considerable distance on its
own anti-gravity propulsion.

RATING
The new and improved Furutech DeMagα completely demagnetizes LPs and optical disc media such as CD, CD-R, DVD, MD, Game CD, Photo CD, SACD, and DVD Audio with 20% increased demagnetization power than the original deMag. Plus it’s an indispensable accessory for keeping interconnect cables, connectors and power cords demagnetized to prevent magnetic signal distortion. The new stylish DeMagα also features touch panel technology for ease of use.
FEATURES
Demagnetization Isn’t Just For Optical Media Anymore!
The DeMagα works for disc media as well as cables, connectors, and power cords! No part of the playback chain should be disturbed by resolution-sapping magnetic interference.
Demagnetizing LPs
How can an LP be magnetized? It’s plastic!
The fact is that pigment added to the plastic during the manufacturing process is the culprit. The minute amount of ferrous material in the pigment causes LPs to become magnetized. Testing at the Tokyo Nanotechnology center with a IHI Gauss meter showed that after an LP was treated with the deMag the magnetic field of the LP was lowered from 620~630 nT to 572~582 nT (nanotesla: a unit of magnetic field strength,1 Tesla = 10,000 gauss)
Demagnetizing Cables
Electric current generates a magnetic field as it flows through a power cord or conductor. However, magnetic impurities within the materials themselves become magnetized and introduce further magnetic distortion. Just loop your cables and power cords with their connectors on the DeMagα and begin treatment.
No matter how valuable or expensive your system is, the only way to achieve top performance is by demagnetizing your problems away! There are no other demagnetizers on the market that can be used in such a versatile and effective way. The DeMagα Demagnetizer can even be used on metal-based accessories like CD stabilizers or speaker terminals.
“… demagnetizing an LP definitively removed a high-frequency glaze or glare and seemed to enrich the midband… Demagnetizing LPs works. And do not try one of these devices unless you’re prepared to buy it.”
