“I gave the NCFs a go on my Pass Labs preamp and dCS Puccini multiplayer. Damn! Yes, the impression was subtle and required recordings of sufficient resolution and harmonic complexity to detect. But it was like giving the soundstage a good sweeping—or taking a dust cloth to a surface and revealing more of the true finish beneath a fine layer of grime. Details and transient cues just had a little more pop and definition.

“What most captured my attention with the NCF was its more definite sense of layering and greater sense of immediacy… ” “The difference between Clear Line “In” and Clear Line “Out” was one of added focus and air between individual images. ” “Bottom line: sensible, cost-effective, and, once heard, difficult to part with.”

“The Furutechs added a sense of acoustic openness… they firmed up the bass and plumped up the midrange, adding gravitas to the resonances… ”

Furutech has taken the humble outlet and run it through a gauntlet of refinement far beyond what most of us can imagine. Performance-wise there's no doubt that the Furutech removed a layer of low-level grunge from the Sonic window, reducing noise across the soundstage. Like a Sonic dust cloth, images were more tangible and retrieved with greater clarity. While the Furutech GTX is not cheap, its uncompromising quality and high performance make it seem like a small price to pay.

A udiophiles have been known to spend a lot of time selecting a power cord. Indeed, these devices are indispensable links-nothing happens without them. But what about the other indispens- able accessory that enters the listening room right in front of them the AC wall receptacle? Easily overlooked on the enthu- siast audio checklist, and just as likely to be a cheap dual outlet that a contractor picked up at a big-box store for two bucks. Thin internal copper and poor electrical connections and contacts cre- ate impedance issues and losses in connectivity and conductance that affect performance.

If you are a lover of the vinyl long- playing disc, this unit from Furutech will be one of those all-too-rare "must- have" components. There is information in those grooves that is always being obscured, minimized, and dulled by the interaction between the magnetism on the disc and the electronics of a cartridge.

Furutech e-TP609 power distribution module $980 Sometimes simpler solutions are better solutions-a notion that perhaps explains why Furutech's e-TP609 six-outlet power distribution module works so well. Note, please, that the e-TP609 is not a "power conditioner," since it doesn't provide active, in-line power-purification/filtration circuitry of any kind. Instead, the e-TP609 is a simple six-outlet power-distribution box that features a robust metal chassis, high-quality vibration-damped "Axial Locking" AC outlets, ultra-high-purity copper wiring, and passive noise filtration via strategically placed panels of an EMI-absorptive material called GC-303 (developed by 3M).

Furutech deMag Price: $1800 Given its cost, Furutech's limited edition deMag is not for casual LP-spinners. That said, this large, overbuilt, flying saucer-like accessory really works. What's that you say, demagnetize vinyl a plastic? Yes, it seems that the pigment added to the plastic contains small amounts of ferrous material that magnetizes vinyl LPs. A quick 20-second zap to each side of an LP results in audible improvements to noise floor, dynamic range, and perceived resolution.
