It’s been almost a decade since my last review of Furutech products: their G-314AG-18 and Absolute Power-18 power cords. I noted then that Furutech tries to squeeze every last ounce of performance from its products, not only through the use of innovative technologies, but also with obsessive devotion to detail and build quality. It seems that no improvement in sound quality is too small to be worth achieving, and no product can be overbuilt.

I've said it before: No matter what type of audiophile you are, Furutech probably makes a product you've lusted after. In addition to power distributors and filters, and finished interconnects, speaker cables, and power cords, they make DIY bulk cables and component parts, and accessories that include the stainless-steel and silver-plated FI-50 NCF power-cord connectors,

No matter what type of audiophile you are, Furutech has some goodie that you will want to add to your accessory collection. If you listen to vinyl, it may be the deMag record demagnetizer, deStat anti-static device, or DFV-1 record flattener. If you’re into digital, it may be the Disc Pure CD and DVD cleaner or SK-II electrostatic disc brush. All of our systems need power, in which case the e-TP80 power filter, one of the company's AC outlets or cover plates, or a fuse or two will be on your wish list.

There are opposing views regarding the importance of the phono cable in an analog playback system. Advocates for this unassuming length of wire point out the minute signals coming from a phono cartridge -- measured in fractions of a millivolt for low-output moving-coil cartridges -- and thus the opportunity for all manner of noise to muck things up. Naysayers will also point to those teeny-tiny signals, proclaiming that anything so small doesn't need a specially designed cable for transmission -- and, by the way, cables don't make a difference anyway.

…The first disc I tried the deStat with was the Allison Krauss SACD Now That I’ve Found You – Collection [Rounder 11661-0325-6]. This is a well-recorded compilation of some of Ms. Krauss’s early recordings. The SACD is one of the best-sounding recordings in my collection. The instruments are clearly rendered and precisely located. Krauss's voice is ethereal. Yet after a quick ten-second zap with the deStat the disc opened up even more, allowing me to hear more of the recording's personality.

"There was more detail and clarity. The tonal accuracy of instruments improved ... each instrument sounded more realistic. The sound after treatment was more vivid, and the background was quieter... I realized I was hearing just as much high-frequency information after demagnetization, but a previously unrealized distortion had been removed. ... made each LP more pleasant to listen to ... another example of the listener not realizing a distortion was present until it had been removed."
