Sound Rebels (Poland)

Nobody knowing anything about audio needs convincing, that proper power to Hi-Fi/High-End devices, including appropriate cables, is a key thing. You just need to take care of it, and the audio gear will surely return the favor. It is well known what kind of progress can be made with appropriately refined confection, with which I mean the plugs, which are often not regarded as significant, especially by the general public. And while most of the lucky people just plugs into the back of their components whatever they like, a part of the golden eared had to go for compromises, by not using the top of the catalog plugs (which are usually quite big) but their lesser brethren, or even “civilian” plugs. Who am I talking about?

It is well known that the Japanese company Furutech has a wealth of different cables, available “from the spool”, as well as factory confectioned, but they also do not forget about people wanting to upgrade their systems using different kinds of accessories, often called audio trinkets. Starting with the universal Destat, brushes and vinyl disc straighteners, through cable supports (NCF Booster / NCF Booster Signal) and ending with power strips

I don’t know how our meeting today will be viewed by followers of theories like: “all digital audio devices sound the same” or “cabling has absolutely no influence on the sound of a device,” but I should now warn the most nervous audio-voodoo hunters before they start to read this text. What is this all about? For me, this is nothing special, as we will be looking this time not at a cable, but at an accessory for a cable application. But what exactly is it?

Today’s test is the proof for the fact, that you should always have your eyes and ears wide open, as having a mild obsession of following most reviews of various shows and audio events, sometimes we can find some very interesting items. That was the case this time. While reviewing a very worked out photo reportage from CES, prepared by the unmatched guys from My-Hiend, I saw a picture of a small reel of a fiercely pink cable. A small moment of dismay, quick verification of the catalog of a certain manufacturer and despite late hour … pinging the Polish distributor on FB.

Usually we talk in an indulgent way about plugs, connectors, adapters, splitters, etc. It seems to be common knowledge, that it is worth to use solid and well made products, which are of repeatable high quality, but the threshold between the professional utilitarianism of the Neutrik and the byzantine, almost jewelry-like splendor of for example the top WBT is more than clear.

Looking at the portfolio of power cables from the Japanese manufacturer Furutech, we can distinguish two groups. The first one encompasses all “naked” cables, covered only with PVC and reasonably priced versions of the 314, 320, 2TS320, 3TS762 and ALPHA3. The second one is dedicated to the more wealthy, and at the same time, more picky customers.

The ability to “hear” cables, or rather the courage to admit to yourself, that something so insignificant as a piece of wire may change anything, and in fact does change the sound of the system it is plugged in, becomes for some people an opportunity to broaden their horizons, and in some more drastic cases, starts another attack of “audiophilia nervosa”.

In case of most reviews the methodology is quite schematic, almost routine. We get a new device for testing, or something that should not even be called a device, due to its function or construction. We look at it, we touch it and get our first impression, which we try to remember as well as we can, write it down and learn new experiences based on it.
